The dig is about to begin
January 23, 2007 at 4:21 am | In swimming pools | Leave a CommentToday we marked out the pool location with day-glow orange paint in the backyard. They hope to begin digging on Wed or Thursday. An archeologist has to be present in case they unearth any Chumash native american remains. We expect it to take a day or two. I’ll take some “before” pictures tomorrow for the record.

Before I retired, I used to tell people that you had to go slow to go fast. You go slow in the planning phase so that you can go fast once the planning is done. We thought we were in a waiting phase, but yesterday we got the call that things will begin soon. Soooooo, Monday the contractor will be here to go over the site and we should be able to start soon thereafter digging the hole! But we are still planning the landscaping since the prices came in too high and we have to cut some things or change some things to bring down the price.
Today was one of those nice warm days when you could imagine that you could be swimming–even in January.
signed the pool contract
January 5, 2007 at 9:32 pm | In swimming pools | Leave a CommentWith the holidays over, it is back to working on the pool project. We signed the contract yesterday and put down the deposit. Found some good advice on a California state website about pool contractors. It reinforced that we are dealing with a good contractor since they had included the suggestions in their boilerplate contract. Now on to getting the permits. The word is that our town is a bit slow in granting permits–could take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.
In the meantime, we are getting bids for the patio arbors and still waiting on the pool decking/landscape bids. The holidays tend to slow everyone down. hoping that things get moving as the local kids go back to school on Monday.
